Pressure Washing Startup Video

PRESSURE WASHING STARTUP VIDEO

In this PRESURE WASHING START UP VIDEO, I cover the equipment you need.  While our physical location is in the Houston, Texas region, we proudly serve all 50 states through my online school and store.  Not only do I show you the equipment you will need, I also demonstrate it in use outside.  My passion is helping new startups build their business!  So thanks for checking out my PRESSURE WASHING STARTUP VIDEO.

PRESSURE WASHER MACHINE

I recommend starting your business with the Kohler 4 GPM pressure washer.  It is a B.E. with Kohler engine and when money is lean and the budget is tight, this is a great way to start!  If you do have any questions about this machine or any of the equipment in this PRESSURE WASHING STARTUP VIDEO, be sure ask it in the comments section.  I always reply personally and try to respond to questions in comments in a timely manner.  This is professional grade machine that will assist cleaning houses and even small commercial buildings.

SURFACE CLEANER

The Whisper Wash Ultra Clean surface cleaner is another highly recommended attachment for your power wash business.  I change the nozzles due to the strong power resulting in the machine lifting or rising up from the surface.  I don’t really like this so the nozzles I use prevents this from occurring on the job.  It’s light weight, versatile, and easy to maneuver on the job.

PRESSURE WASH GUN

You definitely need the pressure wash gun assembly with the Suttner safety orange easy pull trigger.  At the 7:00 time stamp, I demonstrate how this gun can works when down streaming.  You can also use it with various nozzles that enable rinsing as well as reaching higher surface areas.  This is when a J ROD kit is extremely handy.  Be sure and watch the entire video to take advantage of all the tips and tricks.  I sure hope this PRESSURE WASHING STARTUP VIDEO helps you build your new business.  Don’t hesitate to reach out if I can help in any way!

Figuring Downstream Bleach Dilutions

Figuring Downstream Bleach Dilutions

I am often asked about figuring downstream bleach dilutions when pressure washing.  I have never really cared to know what the exact precise percentage of bleach to water is coming out of my gun.  What I am concerned with, is one important fact, is the bleach mix strong enough to change the color of the organic stains or not.   If it isn’t then I know I need to use my dedicated pump, like our Kingslinger Soft Wash System, or a pump up sprayer.  Always remember, that all a Soft Wash System is, is a pump up sprayer on steroids.  It allows you to get a stronger mix, like with a pump up sprayer, without having to re-fill the canister and continuously have to manually pump air into the sprayer.

STRONGEST MIX

The strongest bleach solution you can usually achieve using a General Pump Downstream Injector is around .8-10%.  If you have green algae which is easy to remove, then downstreaming will work for that. Once you get in to the darker and black mildew stains, then you need a stronger mix than downstreaming can deliver.  A pump up sprayer or soft wash system that can get you 20% or higher, is great for that.  For Roof Cleaning, you definitely need stronger mix ratios then what downstreaming can deliver.

If you are one that likes figuring downstream bleach dilutions, then here is a bucket method test you can perform. Also be sure to check out my Online Pressure Washing Video School if you are starting a pressure washing business.

How to manually figure out your dilution ratio on your pressure washer.

Step 1:

Check your flow rate on your pressure washer for 1 minute to see how many GPM your pressure washer is putting out. Use a container that measures gallons along the side of it and fill the container up for 1 minute and try to make sure to not allow any water to get out of the container as you are doing this test. (Ideally you will want to do this test with your rinse tip on the end of your wand)

If your container doesn’t have the markings, or a graduated scale, then you can manually mark them by using a measuring a cup to pour desired amounts into the container, and then mark them.

Step 2:

Test your upstream or downstream injector by getting a metering jug that measures ounces and fill it with water and put your soap line into the metering jug and draw the water for 1 minute. This will allow you to see how many ounces your soap injector is drawing in a minute.

Step 3:

Doing a little math

For example:

If you have a 5 GPM pressure washer then you will do the following math to figure out your dilution ratio on your pressure washer.

5 X 128 (128 ounces in 1 gallon)=640 ounces

Draw rate in a minute: 40 ounces

640/40= 16 total parts, 15 parts water to 1 part chemical, so your dilution ratio would be 15:1 or some in the industry will say 1:15.

I am also including a link to a calculator that you can play around with, and may help you as well.

REMOTE UPDATE

REMOTE UPDATE

This REMOTE UPDATE video is a follow up to an earlier FlowPro Remote video.  This update is specifically for power wash professionals using pull start machines.  Even with pull start machines, yes, there is a way to use the FlowPro system.  That is the purpose of this REMOTE UPDATE video.  Using this system allows you to switch from bleach to rinse without having to move from your location on the job.  It saves time and effort on every job and makes you more productive, efficient and profitable.

REMOTE UPDATE BATTERY PACK

There is a battery pack that is sold separately which would need to be charged each day.  You also need a special chord that connects the battery pack to the remote system.  For those with push button start machines, the remote system connects to the power washer machine battery.  But pull start machines do not have a battery.  This is a great thing to have which allows you to remotely switch from bleach to rinse.

DOWNSTREAM BYPASS INJECTOR

At approximately 5:00 into the video, I explain in detail the different ways a downstream bypass injector is set up.  The ball valve can be set up very easily on either the top or the side.  This is a matter of personal preference and may have a slight effect on rinse water flow volume.  Thanks so much for checking out this REMOTE UPDATE video post.

Pressure Cleaning QnA

PRESSURE CLEANING QnA

Thank you for checking out this PRESSURE CLEANING QnA video post.  We receive many questions from various platforms and know that providing answers to these questions can be helpful to many others.  So the first question comes to us through our YouTube channel in the comments section.  Ron asks about a particular SH mix ratio for house washing while down streaming using a modified x jet.  He is using a 5 gallon per minute pressure washer.

EXACT PERCENTAGES

While there are ways to calculate exact mix ratios and percentages, this is something that I have never done.  There really isn’t any reason for me to know the exact percentage.  Thus my main concern is this.  Is the mix I’m using strong enough to change the color of the organic stains on the surface that I am cleaning?  I cover various surfaces, various stains and the degree of staining and what color those stains are.  These are determining factors in determining whether the bleach mix ratio is strong enough.  In this Pressure Cleaning QnA, I also provide pictures that demonstrate what I’m speaking about. Experience does play a key role in helping to determine a general mix ratio of 30%, or 40% or 50% or stronger.  This is what we might call “the eye test.”  Here is the X Jet product I mention in the video on the Doug Rucker Store website.

ROOF CLEANING QnA

The second question I address is from Jamie and is specifically about roof cleaning and house washing.  Will my mixture consist of solely bleach or would I be adding surfactant?  This is a great question!  One factor in answering this question relates to the grade and quality of the bleach you are using.  Testing and experience is crucial here as I explain at the 7:30 time stamp.  This Pressure Cleaning QnA video ends with one final question about surface cleaner maintenance.  If this information has been helpful for you in your pressure washing business, check out my online video school.

POWER WASH BUSINESS TIPS

POWER WASH BUSINESS TIPS

This POWER WASH BUSINESS TIPS video post answers questions from my YouTube channel viewers.  Specifically, I had several questions about the adjustable wand that we use.  I always enjoy answering questions because I know it will be helpful to many others who might also have similar questions.  The adjustable wand is actually the ADJUSTABLE DUAL LANCE STRAIGHT WAND.  And there are a few other POWER WASH BUSINESS TIPS in this video post as well concerning other things.

POWER WASH ADJUSTABLE WAND

I call it “adjustable wand” because we use it to adjust our pressure while cleaning around delicate surfaces.  This wand is used while down streaming, and I demonstrate a few different positioning options which is simply a matter of personal preference.  Also, all of our guns and wands have a swivel on them.  This makes is much easier to rotate the nozzle while cleaning.  It eliminates the need to stop and turn the nozzle.  This is very help for delicate surfaces such as brick or stone where you do not want to use high pressure in order to prevent damage to the surface.  Many questions we receive about this pertain to what comes with it, how to set it up, and how to use it.  So these are the kinds of questions I answer in depth in the video.  I hope all of these POWER WASH BUSINESS TIPS help you out as well.

DOWNSTREAM INJECTORS

Another question we receive relates to downstream injectors.  There are various ways to close off your bleach mix to achieve 100% so that you can rinse.  On a typical JRod nozzle, there are two larger nozzle sizes to utilize when drawing your bleach mix.  The two smaller size nozzles are for rinsing only without any bleach.  I cover some of the details when using these various JRod nozzles with downstream injectors.  In addition, I demonstrate how the downstream injector is connected from the pressure washer and show a two bucket option for bleach mix vs rinsing. At time stamp 15:00, I also go over how to use a bypass downstream injector.  It’s a different strategy to achieve the same result.  Again, I hope these POWER WASH BUSINESS TIPS prove to be helpful for you and your business.  If you’re interested in more training, check out my monthly two day training events in Houston!
